Community Service

How can I safely serve my community?

The COVID-19 pandemic has motivated many to serve their communities but has also led to many questions regarding safety:

  • A great resource for community service ideas can be found on the site thatsneighborly.org.

    • This initiative is safe and calls for volunteers to write letters to the elderly population that has been forced to quarantine themselves away from their friends and family.

  • The main guidelines to send a letter include:

    1. Reporting the hours from writing to president.csuebbap@gmail.com.

    2. Letters must be legible in large print and handwritten. You might be writing to someone whose eyesight isn’t what it used to be. Make it artistic with colorful paper, drawings, or gel-pens if you think it adds value. Rope your kids into it by asking them to draw a picture! If that’s not your cup of tea, stick with classic pen and ink! You do you. Write the type of letter you’d want to receive.

    3. Exclude the date in case it takes us a while to get your amazing letter into the right hands who need it the most.

    4. Because these are general letters of encouragement and not to a specific person, you can write some variation of “Greetings Neighbor!” or “Hello, friend!” at the top of your letter.

    5. Send it to:
